The Gold Coast draws visitors with its fine beaches and festive atmosphere

While winter's chill envelops the northern hemisphere, Australia is enjoying a hot and sunny summer. This is the perfect season to visit the Gold Coast, one of Australia's top tourism destinations.
Beach town

Located in the state of Queensland, the Gold Coast boasts a string of white beaches that draw visitors from around the world. Surfers Paradise always tops the list of the Gold Coast's best beaches thanks to its clear blue water, white sand and fresh air. The beach is crowded with people keen to enjoy water sports or just watch. The large waves challenge both new and experienced surfers.

Kurrawa attracts families thanks to its tranquil natural landscape, cool and clear seawater, clean sand, and vast lawns perfect for camping and picnics. Locals come here to surf and fish. It is also one of the safest beaches on the Gold Coast thanks to its active lifeguards.
Not a downtown destination, Burleigh draws visitors looking for peace and quiet.  Nearby Burleigh Heads National Park is home to numerous endangered bird and animal species, which live in its vast and unspoiled mountains.

Other beaches like Broad, Main, Kirra and Mermaid attract visitors who enjoy water sports and boaters eager to see the local dolphins and whales. After dark, visitors flock to the seafront to dine in local eateries.
Beyond the beach

While the Gold Coast is famous for its beaches, it's also home to other recreational areas, parks and shopping malls. The most famous theme park in Australia, Dreamworld is so big it's impossible to try all the rides in a single day. Visitors who love fruit and flowers will want to explore the area's orchards and botanical gardens. Families with kids can stop at the Warner Bros Movie World Studio to get backstage insight into the movie business and enjoy exciting entertainment shows. Every afternoon there's a parade with many celebrities playing legendary roles.

Parks aside, the Gold Coast offers busy marketplaces and shopping areas. This is a tourist town. Instead of office buildings, the city's downtown is devoted to hotels, resorts, fashion and cosmetic showrooms, souvenirs stores, casinos, bars and cafés. Shoppers should head for Paradise Centre, Marina Mirage or traditional handicraft markets specializing in handmade souvenirs like Broadbeach or Tamborine Mountain. Whether you want a sumptuous feast or a simple cup of coffee and a place to people-watch head to Cavill Avenue.
