Nearly 60 entries and albums of journalistic photos were included in the closing exhibition of Journey of Heritages 2016. This exhibition was the culmination of the Heritage Photographic Contest – Journey of Heritages 2017, the fourth annual photo contest held by Heritage magazine.

Designed to showcase the landscapes, people and culture of Vietnam, the Journey of Heritages is an annual photo contest organized by Heritage magazine and Vietnam Airlines JSC. In 2016, the contest's five Preliminary phases drew 156 reportage photo albums (with 2,300 photos) and over 400 cover photos. Two out of the 15 Cover Photos showcased the final round were featured on Heritage covers, in issue 170 (May 2016) and issue 173 (August 2016). Many entries in the Photo Album category, which did not win, were used to illustrate our promotional material, articles or photo essays. All of the entries chosen for the Final Round and the winning Cover Photo and Reportage Album shots will be used in our publications in 2017.

An exciting part of the 2016 Photo Contest was the Heritage Photo Tour, which included visits to four World Heritage sites in Central Vietnam. This tour was co-hosted by Heritage in coordination with the Clubs of World Natural and Cultural Heritages in Vietnam and the UNESCO Vietnam Association. Another Photo Tour titled “Distant Journeys” also took place this year, with the theme: “Exploring the West Truong Son”. This tour was hosted by Heritage Magazine and Ford Vietnam and took 10 professional photographers and journalists on a thrilling drive through the mountains.

The 2016 Heritage Exhibition: Journey of Heritages was held in late December 2016, and featured 38 entries and photo albums from the Final Round, as well as 20 photos of four World Heritage sites taken during the Photo Tour. The jury chose these images for their high technical and artistic merit and their exploration of cultural themes.

This year, our Special Prizes were won by two experienced photographers. Hoang Manh Cuong (Reportage Album category – album “Chèo drum sounds in the titular courtyard”) is a veteran reporter and TV director. Ngo Quang Phuc (Cover Photo category – entry The Elephant Festival) is a member of the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists with the titles E.VAPA/G and E.FIAP. Both photographers were born in 1958 and have reaped many domestic and international photographic awards.
The fifth season of the “Heritage Photographic Contest – Journey of Heritages 2017” will open on January 1, 2017 and close on October 31, 2017. A new theme, "Destinations of Vietnam Airlines", will be added to this year's contest.
